September 5-6 - 24-Hour Champion Challenge - Get your team ready for this year’s 24-Hour Champion Challenge. In its tenth year, the mountain biking event combines recreational fun and a unique challenging adventure, while creating good-natured competition for teams of friends, co-workers and individual racers who compete for prizes and glory.
The race begins at 12 p.m., Sat., Sept. 5, and ends at 12 p.m., Sun., Sept. 6. The goal of the race is to complete as many laps as possible on the course in 24 hours. This year the course has been redesigned to include some additional rolling terrain and rocky technical sections and now measures just short of 13 miles. In previous years, the course was 12 miles in length.
The team relay format allows riders with abilities ranging from intermediate to elite to compete and enjoy the race. Competitors can race as a part of a team or on their own. There are five classes for the race: the five-person co-ed, the four-person division, the corporate division, the co-ed division and the solo division. The teams will work together in a relay fashion.
“Endurance, teamwork and the ability to have fun are required,” said Melissa Cullin, the resort’s special event’s manager and the race’s technical director. “It is always thrilling at the beginning of the race, but you can’t help but be amazed watching the teams head out to navigate the course after the sun goes down. Sunrise really is a big morale booster after a long night of competition.”
“The 24-Hour Champion Challenge is more for fun than a typical National Championship Race, but some competitors will be competing for bonus points in the Mid-Atlantic Super Series,” adds Cullin.
Athletes who race in the popular regional mountain bike series are eligible to earn bonus points by competing in the Labor Day weekend event at Seven Springs. For information on the bonus points and the Mid-Atlantic Super Series, visit www.masuperseries.com.
The 24-Hour Champion Challenge is a great time for all of the athletes, friends and families, but spectators will be amazed by the excitement and energy surrounding the event. For more information and to register your team, call (800) 452-2223, ext. 7757, or visit www.7springs.com for more information and registration forms.
