JANUARY 9th, 2010- THE GRAND OPENING OF THE BigAirBAG AT BLUE MOUNTAIN SKI AREA! PALMERTON, PA – Are you really ready to Touch the Sky?  Blue Mountain is announcing the arrival of the BigAirBAG. Designed as a training tool for skiers and riders, the huge air-filled pad cushions the landing for aerial maneuvers. The BigAirBAG is manufactured by BigAirBAG B.V. in The Netherlands, and Blue Mountain Ski Area has the largest BigAirBAG in the country and is the only site in Pennsylvania.
Measuring 56 feet long by 35 feet wide and 8 feet high, this inflatable compression bag will be situated at lower paradise where skiers and riders will have easy access and visibility. The boldly designed double-compartmentalized bag is made of a heavy-duty nylon and refills every 10 seconds to allow for a constant flow of traffic.
Whether Blue Mountain’s skiers and snowboards are looking to use the BigAirBAG as a training aide, take their talent to the next level, or just perfect their routines, they all can land safely on the bag. The BigAirBAG is a variant on a fall cushion, used in the world of professional stunts. The BigAirBAG is placed in front of a ski-jump so as to catch any fall from a jump. This means that every snowboarder/skier can practice jumps without risk. Once out on the snow, the skier or rider goes off a kicker jump, performing the desired aerial maneuver, and then lands on the BigAirBAG. The bag allows the athlete to slide off onto the snow easily.
Blue Mountain is one of the Pocono’s premiere skiing and snowboard destinations. Blue Mountain Ski Area has the Highest Vertical in PA with 34 Trails for all abilities including 3 runs near or over a mile long!
With Blue’s 9 Lifts (including our High Speed Detachable Quad & the regions ONLY High Speed Detachable 6 - Passenger Lift), our customers spend more time on the slopes and less in the lift lines!  Blue Mountain has 100% snowmaking and 100% lighting for evening fun. Our Tubing Park has 19 runs and 3 lifts to keep you sliding all day and night. Blue Mountain offers 2 Full Service Lodges to meet your every skiing, riding, and dinning need. And remember, as the closest major ski resort to Philadelphia, Wilmington, and many parts of the NY & NJ region, we are less than a Tank of Gas Away! For more information, go to www.skibluemt.com.

MAKE WAY FOR THE TOMAHAWK EXPRESS - Pennsylvania’s Newest High Speed Detachable Lift - Coming to Shawnee Mountain for Winter 2010-11

Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA – As part of a major lift system overhaul, Ski Shawnee Inc., owner and operator of Shawnee Mountain, is pleased to announce the purchase of a new high speed detachable quad chairlift for the popular Pocono Ski Resort.

Manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah, by Doppelmayr CTEC USA, the new high speed quad will be installed this summer along the Tomahawk Trail and replace Shawnee’s existing fixed grip quad lift in the same location. The fixed grip quad will then be moved to the Arrowhead Trail and replace Shawnee’s oldest lift – a fixed grip triple which will be retired.

Named the “Tomahawk Express”, Pennsylvania’s newest detachable quad will serve as Shawnee’s flag ship lift centrally located to serve 20 of Shawnee’s 23 slopes and trails. The new high speed lift will whisk skiers and snowboarders 3100’ to the summit in just 3 minutes – current lift ride is 7 minutes.

Despite its high speed, 1000 feet per minute, the new detachable quad is designed to be very child and ski school friendly with a slow 225 feet per minute load and unload speed. Each of the detachable 4 person chairs will have rear slanting seats. The new Tomahawk Express Quad will transport 2,400 skiers/riders per hour.

All the lift system installation and relocation work will be completed in time for the 2010-11 winter snow sports season. A ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new Tomahawk Express is planned for early December.
