Mardi Gras parade and wine dinner highlight annual Spring Carnival festivities
Hidden Valley, PA – The Big Easy is coming to Hidden Valley Resort this March.
Hidden Valley Resort will play host to a Mardi Gras celebration during its annual Spring Carnival Saturday, March 5, and Sunday, March 6, 2011. Fun for non-skiers as well as winter sport enthusiasts, the ski lodge plaza will be transformed into Mardi Gras Avenue and will feature music by DJ Donn, games and activities, strolling entertainers, food, vendors and more.
The highlight of this year’s event is the Mardi Gras parade at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Participants can flex their creative muscles and dress up in their best Mardi Gras garb, make a mask at the mask making event or build a themed float for the parade. All participants can register in a prize drawing with the parade’s best entry winning the grand prize – a $100 Hidden Valley gift card. All entrants have the chance to win two tickets to Shrek the Musical compliments of WTAE-TV or a Spring Carnival prize pack provided by several of the carnival’s sponsors.
Other family-friendly Mardi Gras activities include a coin hunt, an obstacle course, snow rafting and a Minute-to-Win-It challenge. Mardi Gras participants can play springtime games like snow golf, snow volleyball and corn hole. The Family Life Fund Sweet and Treat Bar will again be a part of Spring Carnival by offering smoothies, candy, cookie decorating, crafts and more from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday with all proceeds benefitting Children’s Hospital’s Family Life Fund.
In addition, a Mardi Gras Wine Dinner is being held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, in the Clock Tower Restaurant. Hidden Valley’s culinary team has created a New Orleans-inspired menu paired with a variety of wines presented by April Ferraro of Southern Wine and Spirits. Tickets to the wine dinner are $49.95 per person. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 814-443-8000, ext. 346. The festivities will continue at Glaciers Pub, also offering Mardi Gras themed libations from 5 – 10 p.m. on March 5.
Coinciding with the Spring Carnival, the Hidden Valley Race Club’s (HVRC) Open Cup Giant Slalom race and the HV Wild West Throwdown terrain park series skier/boarder cross will both take place on Sunday, March 6. Registration for the Open Cup race is on the plaza outside Wintersports U from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Signups for the terrain park event are on the bridge by the Clock Tower Restaurant from 10 – 11 a.m. Fees for the HVRC race are $7 for one run or $10 for two runs and the skier/boarder cross event is $10.
