Seven Springs Mountain Resort Presents The 2012 International Bowhunters Organization World Championship

More than 300 Pennsylvania Residents Vying for Coveted Title of World Champion

WHAT: Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Pennsylvania’s outdoor adventure headquarters, will host the 2012 International Bowhunting Organization’s (IBO) World Championship, Aug. 8-11.

The World Championship is an annual event in which 1,331 contestants (as of Aug. 3) from more than 20 countries compete over the course of four days in more than 30 classes. At stake – $200,000 in cash and prizes and the coveted title of world champion.

More than 330 of these professional archers are from the state of Pennsylvania with hometowns in our region including Pittsburgh, Somerset, Greensburg, Butler, Indiana and Washington.

Twenty-four ranges will be created throughout the woods and along the ski slopes and trails at Seven Springs. Throughout the course, there will be more than 400 3-D targets, approximately 20 targets per range.  The life-size targets are designed to represent indigenous species like black bear, white tail deer and turkey, as well as exotic species like Russian black bear and mountain goats.

Teams of four to five shooters are assigned a set of three ranges each day where they fire from a designated spot at the targets.  Precision is key, as the closer their arrow comes to the kill zone of the target, the higher the score.  The Championship Round is scheduled for the morning of Sat., Aug. 11.

 WHEN: Opening Ceremonies, 12 p.m., Wed., Aug. 8, 2012
World Championship Finals, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Sat., Aug. 11
