Shawnee on Delaware, PA – With a newly improved and spacious layout for 2013, the Pocono Chicken Wing-Off, an important annual fundraiser for Monroe County Meals on Wheels, returned to Shawnee Mountain Ski Area for its second season on Sunday, August 11.
Netting approximately $16,000 for Monroe County Meals on Wheels, the participants distributed over 6852 pounds of chicken equaling 67,292 wings. Mimi Mikels, executive director of Meals on Wheels, comments “We could not have our most important fund-raiser without the restaurants that are extremely generous in preparing and serving the wings and without the businesses that sponsor the Wing-Off. The proceeds from this year’s Wing-Off will enable us to provide 2100 meals to elderly and disabled homebound people in Monroe County.”
Scheduled noon to 4pm, the festive event had a variety of 46 tasty, hot, and unique wings prepared by 11 of the Pocono region’s most popular restaurants and businesses; The Log Cabin Bar & Grill, The Historic Tom X Pub, RayPriceCars.com, Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), Scorecard Sports Bar & Grill, The Big A Grillehouse & Tavern, Tickle My Pig BBQ, Jubilee Restaurant, Wintergreens Patio Grill, The Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort, and The Frogtown Chophouse. Festival attendees paid as they went for wings, beverages, and other food. Proceeds from all wings sold went to benefit Monroe County Meals on Wheels.
