SEVEN SPRINGS, Pa. – Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Pennsylvania’s largest ski and snowboard resort, welcomes back some of the country’s and the world’s best snowboarders and skiers for the Burton US Open Qualifiers, Jan. 31-Feb. 2 and the US Revolution Tour, Feb. 3-7, 2014.
Seven Springs will welcome 150 of the best amateur snowboarders to the Burton US Open Qualifiers for their chance to advance to the US Open in Vail, March 3-8, 2014. These athletes will come to Seven Springs from all over the world including North America, Europe and Japan. The top three women and top six men in halfpipe and slopestyle events will move on to the US Open to compete against US Olympic Halfpipe and Slopestyle Snowboarding team members like Taylor Gold. Gold attended the Burton US Open Qualifiers at Seven Springs in 2013, where he took home first place in the men’s halfpipe competition.
“Seven Springs Mountain Resort has become a leader in the snowsports industry by hosting these two national competitions, developing and innovating freestyle skiing and snowboarding and by creating one of two Olympic-size halfpipes on the East Coast,” said the resort’s CEO, Eric Mauck. “It’s remarkable to think that last year’s men’s halfpipe winner, Taylor Gold, is going to represent our country in the Winter Olympics in Sochi and that his journey passed through Seven Springs. This year’s competitions could be the starting ground for our country’s next winter Olympians.”
The US Revolution Tour stop at Seven Springs will be the first of three on this circuit this winter and the only stop east of the Mississippi River. The competition will feature top junior freeskiers and snowboarders competing in halfpipe and slopestyle and serves as a stepping-stone for athletes making the transition from competing at the grassroots level to the elite level. Top winners may earn an invite to be part of the US Grand Prix, Junior Worlds, the US Open, USASA Nationals, and participate in Project Gold camps.
“We honored to welcome back the US Revolution Tour and to witness the incredible skills of these junior competitors who could be on their way to breaking into the elite levels of skiing and snowboarding,” added Mauck. “Both competitions are spectator-friendly and will offer our guests what could be a once in a lifetime chance to witness these incredible athletes make a name for themselves.”
This is the second year that Seven Springs has hosted the Burton US Open Qualifiers and the US Revolution Tour. Prior to these events, Pennsylvania had never hosted a national snowsports competition of this caliber.
Since 2006, Seven Springs has been committed to developing and innovating its terrain parks and Olympic-size superpipe. Currently, Seven Springs has seven terrain parks of varying difficulty and progression including the Burton Pirates Riglet Park for children ages 4-8; The Industrial Parkway, the world’s first urban-themed terrain park; and The Spot, the resort’s flagship terrain park, which is home to one of two Olympic-size halfpipes on the East Coast. The resort’s hard work and dedication towards these efforts have been nationally recognized as the 2012-2013 number one terrain parks on the East Coast and the number four pipe in North America.
