Welcome to 2011 – 2012
While we head into the fall season, everyone at Whitetail Resort is busy preparing for winter. We've invested 2.8 million dollars to improve the resort for the upcoming 2011-2012 winter season. Here are a few of the capital projects we've been working on.
LIGHTING AND ADDITIONAL SNOWMAKING ON FANCIFUL TRAIL-- Don't worry about the Fanciful trail being the last to open and the first to close this year. We've added new Tecno-Alpin fan guns on our Fanciful Trail to heavily increase our snowmaking capacity on this favorite trail. In addition we have installed an automated lighting system on the trail to open it up for the first time to night skiiers and boarders.
NEW LOADING CARPET ON EZ RIDER QUAD LIFT-- We are in the process of installing a loading carpet on the EZ Rider Quad in order to improve beginner skiers’ and snowboarders’ ease with getting on the lift while cutting down line congestion on busy days.
AIR CONDITIONING IN MARKETPLACE-- Marketplace at Whitetail Resort is now fully equipped with air conditioning to ease or summer guests' comfort during hot days. This improvement also opens up our Marketplace as a venue for weddings, special events, showers, reunions and more.
ADDITION OF SECOND PATIO-- We have moved and expanded our ski check area in order to make room for a second patio outside Windows Cafe. The patio will feature a second fire pit and heated pavers as well as double the outdoor seating capacity.
NEW RENTAL EQUIPMENT-- Whitetail Resort has purchased all brand new adult skis and boots furnished by Elan and Dalbello, and also 600 brand new adult Burton snowboards for our guests who require rental equipment.

Check our Whitetail Resort's 11th Annual Great Outdoors Festival held on October 22-23 at the resort! It is a fun-filled weeked with great food, live music, chairlift rides, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, kid's activities, craft vendors and more! WHITETAIL RESORT MAKES PREPARATIONS FOR THE WINTER SEASON
MERCERSBURG, PA—Whitetail Resort is busily preparing for the 2011-2012 winter season with many capital improvements projects well underway. An automated lighting system has been installed on the intermediate Fanciful Trail to enable night skiing and snowboarding on the trail. Additionally, the trail will be equipped with even more Techno Alpin fan guns to increase snowmaking capacity on the trail.
Whitetail is also making headway on other capital projects including the construction of a loading carpet on the EZ Rider Quad, the building of a second patio and fire pit area outside Windows Restaurant, and the relocation and expansion of the ski and snowboard check. In addition, the rental shop has been busy with the new rental equipment which has started to arrive. This season, skiers can look forward to brand new Elan rental skis. This new product incorporates Early Rise technology, which has shown to accelerate the learning curve for beginners. The Whitetail Rental Shop has also purchased 600 brand new Burton snowboards for adults.
“With all of the preparations and capital improvements we have completed, I am sure all of the outdoor enthusiasts in our region will thoroughly enjoy the upcoming winter season. In addition the long range winter forecasts look favorable for the sports of skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing,” stated Whitetail Resort President and General Manager, Don MacAskill.
Whitetail Resort is also preparing for the eleventh annual Great Outdoors Festival featuring the Ski, Snowboard, and Golf Swap. The event will be held on October 22 and 23, 2011 from 10 am to 5 pm and promises to be one of the most successful festivals to date. Activities for this year’s festival include chairlift rides, snowmaking tours, the Penn State Timber Sports Team, various kids’ activities, live entertainment, great food, and much more. The Hagerstown area blues band, Moondog Medicine Show, will be featured at the festival Saturday October 22, while Hicktown, a country/rock band from the Hagerstown/Greencastle area, will play on Sunday, October 23. The Great Outdoors Festival also gives a last minute opportunity for avid skiers and snowboarders to purchase their 2011-12 Season Pass or Advantage Card during the pre-season sale. Those who do will receive free admission to the event.
