WHITE HAVEN, PA - The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association is proud to announce the presentation of the “Spirit of Excellence Award for Pennsylvania Snow Sports” to Hugh Emory, for a distinguished career and service to the Pennsylvania Snow Sports Industry.
Hugh’s knowledge and dedication to the snow sports industry has had a huge impact on how Pennsylvania Resorts operate. Hugh successfully guided the association through critical times when litigation against resorts was particularly prevalent from 1970 through the 1990s. Hugh helped PA Ski Resorts understand and implement “best risk management practices” as well as to design and implement successful “release language” in operations. Hugh has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of ski defense litigation throughout his entire career.
A Risk Manager from a PSAA member area stated, “Hugh is the voice of reason and logic, and has always been the calm in every storm. Hugh has brought both the good news and the bad news, and looked at every situation in a balanced manner while also lending his smile and sense of humor to challenging times.” Hugh is like E. F. Hutton, “When Hugh speaks, people listen.”
Through it all, Hugh has fostered and guided the industry with dedication and commitment, while always remaining a friend to the PA industry. At a recent Ski Industry Conference, the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association extended their best wishes as he begins to slow down and close this chapter of his career.
