MERCERSBURG, PA – Whitetail Resort has recently chosen six outstanding candidates to receive the 16th Annual Whitetail Resort Employee Scholarships, in promoting higher education. Four candidates received scholarships of $500 each, one candidate received the Eighth Annual Whitetail Resort - Oscar Weller Memorial Employee Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, and one candidate received the First Annual Whitetail Resort – Dave Swacina Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000.

Recipients are students who were employees in good standing for the 2017-2018 Season at Whitetail Resort. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, and Whitetail’s own STEEP values which stand for Safety, Teamwork, Efficiency, Enthusiasm, and Professionalism. Each applicant must also maintain an appropriate grade point level, participate in extracurricular activities, and provide adequate references.

This year’s list of recipients includes 3 local high school students and 3 college underclassmen. These outstanding students are: Brady Flowers of Hancock (Garrett College), Emily Keefer of Martinsburg (Shepherd University), Megan Miller of Mercersburg (James Buchanan High School) and Brianna Black of Smithsburg (Salisbury University). Each of these recipients was awarded a $500 scholarship at their respective award ceremonies.

In addition to our $500 scholarships, this year Whitetail is proud to be able to award two $1000 scholarships. The recipient of the $1,000 Whitetail Resort-Oscar Weller Memorial Employee Scholarship is Avery Wenger of Chambersburg (Greencastle Antrim High School). The recipient of the $1000 Whitetail Resort-Dave Swacina Memorial Employee Scholarship is Claudia Tolley of Keedysville, MD (Wash. Co. Technical High). These scholarships are in honor of Oscar Weller and Dave Swacina, both valued employees and friends who had a tremendous impact on our guests’ experiences while working here at Whitetail. These scholarships recognize students who, like Oscar & Dave, demonstrated a commitment to Whitetail Resort, showed dedication to the community, and maintained a thirst for knowledge in all that he pursued.
