Blue Knob Ski Area, Claysburg

Terrain
There's plenty of snowmaking firepower to cover the mountain's trails if nature doesn't cooperate, and about 75% of the 36 trails are protected by the snow guns. Six lifts serve a wide variety of terrain, from long, easy beginner trails to some fairly steep stuff on the lower half of the mountain. Bump runs, glades, and even a small bowl will keep better skiers and riders happy while intermediates have their own pod of trails (and even a couple of glades) to keep them happy. The mountain's 1072 feet of vertical is the state's second greatest. A terrain park, tubing operation, and cross-country trails round out the winter recreation possibilities at the resort. But its location in a state park means you can go snowmobiling on a network of marked trails, or challenge your cross-country skills on the park's hiking trails or service roads.

Mountain-top lodging and dining are available, and there's also an alpine village and conference center. The region's many small towns offer more lodging, dining, and shopping choices.

The ski access gates will feature paddles instead of turnstiles and greatly expedite the ticketing process.  And, the Last Run lounge has been expanded and updated.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort & Conference Center, Macungie

Bear Creek Mountain Resort & Conference Center is nestled on over 330 acres in scenic Berks County, Pennsylvania. The resort offers skiing, snowboarding and snowtubing winter activities and hiking, biking, boating, tennis and nearby golf during the spring through fall months. Guests can plan an event in the spacious banquet and meeting facilities with mountain views, dine at The Grille at Bear Creek or the Trail’s End Cafe, relax at The Spa at Bear Creek or vacation at our resort hotel, with indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs.

History of Bear Creek
Prior to becoming a ski resort, the area known as Bear Creek was home to the Rittenhouse Gap mines, a part of the Mid-Atlantic Iron Belt. The mines date back to the late 1800s and the time of Thomas Edison, who was drawn to the mines to develop a cost-effective means of extracting iron ore from crushed rock. The railroad serving the mines was known as the Catasuaqua-Fogelsville Railroad. It was built in the 1850s as a way to transport iron ore to furnaces along the Lehigh River, including Lock Ridge Furnace in Alburtis, where it was used to make cannon and machinery. The Rittenhouse Gap mines were abandoned after World War 1 when the iron industry was drawn to the upper Midwest region of the county.

In 1968, the ski area opened its doors for the first time as Doe Mountain Ski Area with just a t-bar, rope tow and two trails. Overtime, the facility has grown and expanded to 21 trails with 6 lifts. In 1999, Doe Mountain changed ownership. Since that time, it has developed into a year round facility known today as Bear Creek Mountain Resort & Conference Center.

Bear Creek has a full calendar of Fall events beginning with the Country Jam Music & Fall Festival on September 23rd. Next is the return of the Harvest Wine Festival on October 21st. Mountain overview

More than half the terrain is ego-boosting green circle territory featuring wide, groomed boulevards with fine views into the valley below. Those just learning to ski or snowboard have almost 11 acres all to themselves. Intermediates have fewer choices but they are invariably good. Trails like The Pharaoh and The Dromedary have a definite New England feel to them. The intermediate terrain in particular skis and rides bigger than you'd expect from 800 feet of vertical.

The half dozen black diamond trails each boast at least one good pitch but despite excellent design (a hallmark of all Camelback's trails) seem to segue all too quickly into intermediate lower halves.

Camelback devotes plenty of space for Terrain Parks. The CBK Terrain is serviced by its own lift, The Glen Lift.  The Park is packed with nice jump lines, cutting-edge, rails, boxes and bonks for shredding snowboarders and freeskiers.  CBK Park will also offer a small rail garden to be used by beginners “groms” as a stepping stone to the progression park.

A well-developed base area complete with a clock tower and three day lodges offers all services and amenities. Camelback offers 7 base area eateries and one positioned at the summit serving all the favorites; BBQ, Chinese, Italian, Sushi, fresh salads, carving and pasta stations and pub fare. Well known for friendly guests, even friendlier staff and the best in live entertainment at the Thirsty Camel and Glen Lodge, Camelback has something to offer for everyone for Winter Fun.
